How to Shorten Curtains Without Sewing – The Easy No-Sew Method

Discover how to shorten curtains without sewing. Use iron-on hem tape or curtain clips for a quick, no-needle solution that looks great.
Don’t own a sewing machine—or just not ready to thread a needle? You can still shorten your curtains easily with a no-sew method. Whether your curtains are store-bought or hand-me-downs, this is a fast and foolproof way to get them to the perfect length.
🧰 Supplies You’ll Need:
-
Measuring tape
-
Sharp fabric scissors
-
Iron
-
Iron-on hem tape or fabric bonding tape (e.g., Stitch Witchery)
-
Curtain clips (optional)
📏 Step 1: Measure and Mark
Hang the curtains and decide your preferred finished length. Measure and mark how much needs to be removed. Remember to add 2 inches for the folded hem.
✂️ Step 2: Cut and Fold
Remove curtains and lay flat. Cut off excess fabric. Fold the new hem up 1 inch, then fold again another 1 inch to hide the raw edge.
🔥 Step 3: Apply Hem Tape
Place the iron-on tape between the folded layers of fabric. Press with a hot iron (follow tape instructions). The adhesive melts and bonds the hem in place.
Let cool for a few minutes before moving the curtain.
🪟 Optional: Use Curtain Clips
If you're hesitant to cut or alter permanently, you can also fold the extra fabric behind the curtain and secure it with curtain clips. It's not as clean but works as a temporary fix.
✅ Final Results: No Sewing, No Problem
Your curtain now has a crisp, clean hemline—without ever threading a needle. It’s a quick way to polish the look of any room.
