The Hurricanes, emboldened by new owner Tom Dundon, entered the 2018 NHL Draft hoping to shake up a roster thatfinished well below expectations in 2017-18. That the Hurricanes also acquiredFerland, coming off a career season with 21 goals, and Fox, a third-round pick in 2016 who has developed into a blue-chip defense prospect, was a bonus and gave Carolina an early edge among pundits. Lindholm, 23, is a restrictedfree agent whose negotiationswith Carolina reportedly had turned contentious in recent days. He's coming off a 16-goal, 44-point season but has underwhelmed relative to his draft billing, with 188 points in 374 games acro s parts of five seasons with the Hurricanes. Hanifin, 21, had his best season as a proin 2017-18 with 10 goals and 32 pointsbut had become the subject of trade rumors this offseason as an odd-man out in Carolina's crowded blue line. For the Flames, it's hard to see an upgrade. Lindholmhasn't materialized into a top-flight point producer, and Calgary already has Sean Monahan and MikaelBacklund in its top six.
