Saturday night's Game 4 of the Western Conference finals was tied 1-1 after two periods. Then came a flurry of six goals in the span of 10 minutes, including a by the Ducksin the third period. But the goalies locked in after that, not allowing a goal for 33 minutes until Antoine Vermettescored with 14:23 remaining in the second overtime to give Chicago a and even the best-of-seven series at two games apiece. Chicago and Anaheim appeared to be headed to the first intermi sion in a scorele s tie until Brandon Saad broke it openwith a breakaway goal, juking before going top shelf on Anaheim goalie Frederik Andersen with 47 seconds remaining in the first period. The Ducks got the equalizer late in the second period when Kyle Palmieri's wrister got past Blackhawks goaltenderCorey Crawford. The score was set up byFranoisBeauchemin, who prevented the Hawks from clearing the puck by catching it and throwing it down before finding a streaking Palmieri. Crawford, who made 47 saves, lostsight of the rifled shot, in part, because he was screened by Ducks winger Emerson Etem. The Blackhawks quickly broke the tie on a rebound goal from Jonathan Toews le s than three minutes into the final period. A Brent Seabrook slapshot five minutes later gave the Blackhawks a two-goal advantage and sent the home crowd into a fervor. The jubilation didn't last long. The Ducks answered 64 seconds later with a Ryan Kesler goal the first of three Anaheim goals in the span of 37 seconds.The Bruinshold the NHL record for the fastest three goals by one team, netting a trio in 20 seconds against the Canuckson Feb. 25, 1971. The fastest three goals in a playoff game happened in 1979 when the Maple Leafs scored three times in 23 seconds against the Flames. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville played for that Maple Leafs team, a Toronto tenure that spanned from 1978-1991. Chicago kept at it and got a power-play goal when Brad Richards found Patrick Kane, who slapped the puck into an open net on Andersen's left side to tie it at 4-4 and send the game to overtime. Game 5 will be back in Anaheim Mondayat 9 p.m. ET(NBC Sports Network). Highlight : Anaheim's three goals in 37 seconds. Chicago almost ended the game near the end of the first overtime when Patrick Sharp took a pa s from Teuvo Tervinenfor a breakaway opportunity, but he was stoned at the doorstep by Andersen, who had 35 saves.
