One of the best parts of Road to the NHL Winter Cla sic is getting to see the personal side of players, which fans wouldn't otherwise have a chance to do. In the second episode of the series, much of the time is spent showing players from both teams in their natural elements as they endure the ups and downs of the season. Some of the better moments include a jittery Brad Marchand getting ready to read "'Twas the NightBefore Christmas" with the Boston Pops and getting some words of encouragement from Santa himself, and a flustered Brendan Gallagher having a Facetime chat with his favorite football player, Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton. Smith goes from tough hockey player to play kitchen master with his young daughter and Hayes is the pride of his hometown as a member of the beloved Bruins. In terms of the season, we get caught up with both teams around the middle of December, when the Bruins drop a tough one to the Oilers in overtime before taking a home-and-home against the Penguins and the Canadiens are still trying to string a few wins together. But they try to keep it light as they head out on an 8-game road trip (Winter Cla sic included) after getting shut out by the Kings despite generating 45 shots on goal. The next episode will continue to follow both teams as they get ready for the Winter Cla sic on Friday and the Montreal parts arent likely to be pretty with the team stumbling into New Years Day on a near historical losing streak.
